MARECOLLEGE WELL ON ITS WAY

The construction of the new Marecollege in Leiden is well on its way. Both inside and outside the building are taking shape.

The organically shaped ‘Lemniscaat’ has on the front and the back side of the school been cladded with natural slates, from the inside the central wooden stairs have been finalized as well as the interior of the Auditorium. The specially designed wooden ceiling in the hallways have been placed to upgrade the existing school building, the new wood covered classrooms take their shape and the contractor putts his final energy in the complex central hall space with all its dynamic shapes and slate covering.

The school will be officially opened on the 4th of September 2013 for the new school season.

24H BREAKING GROUND IN ASSEN

Last week construction started on the new Ice and Snow control buildings in Assen. The design consist of a salt storage, several truck storages, garage spaces, a canteen and sanitary facilities of a total of 3900 m2.

The construction has to be finished before the next winter period starts early October 2013. Trees from the site will be recycled into columns for the building, all other roof structures will also be made of wood, with sedum finish and solar panels so it will be a producing energy building. With clients RWS and the province of Drenthe, consultants Amic and Pieters Bouw Techniek and contractor Geveke, a good collaboration started on a special project.

SLAVA’S NEW GUESTHOUSE NEAR PARIS CLOSE TO START FOR CONSTRUCTION

Last week our client Slava Polunin received the building permit for his new guesthouse.At his beautiful estate in Crecy la Chapelle, near Paris, 24H made a design for Slava’s guesthouse. Construction will start this spring and should be completed by the end of the year. The guesthouse will have 16 bedrooms with bathrooms and one general kitchen. The building will get a all wooden roof with a variety of wood shingles meandering organically over the roof. All bedrooms will be specially designed from the inside by invited artists.

CONSTRUCTION STARTED ON DOMBURG WATERTOWER

Last month construction started on the watertower in Domburg. This listed building will transformed into various living spaces.

During the first phase, the outside facade will be restored and the new windows and wooden louvers will be placed in the brick curved wall. After that the interior will be made including restoration of the water tank. All spaces will have spectacular views over the sea, beach and dunes around Domburg. BUILDING PERMIT FOR MEC

On the 27th of February, the municipality of Assen has granted the ‘Milieu Educatie Centrum’ a building permit. After almost a year all discussions are resolved and it is now up to the municipality it self to decide when construction will start. The highly innovative sustainability building has recycled wood burners for heating and a solar tower for cooling. The ‘ground-tube-system’ will cool the air entering the building in the summer and heat up the cold winter air before in enters the in the winter. Exhibition spaces and classrooms will provide spaces for children to learn about the environment.

24H SELECTED FOR NEW BUILDING VENWOUDE

After a selection process with a long and a short list and several presentations, 24H has been selected to design the new Zonnedauw building at Venwoude, an estate in the forest of Lage Vuursche.

At the beautiful site of this retreat centre with an old manor, some newer buildings, an elegant driveway and big beech trees, the new building for seminars and workshops, will find its place between the giant tree trunks, leave covered ground and reflecting pond.

CELEBRATIONS AT MARECOLLEGE

Just before Christmas some 400 students and teachers gathered outside the new Auditorium for speeches and balloons to celebrate that builder Van Driesten reached the highest point of the new Marecollege. All new structures are covered with roofs, all windows are in place and the slate cladding is being added to the outside walls. In the coming months all interiors will be finished including 2 big new stairs in the central hall. Completion is still expected before the summer of 2013.
